When is ‘enough’ going to be enough for these guys? While I am sorry that I cannot be there to help @sethmeyers make better decisions, I can say that it is always a bad idea to trust Wall Street and the big banks to write their own rules and regulations. Let me be very clear. We do not have a ‘labor shortage’ in this country. What we have is a working class who are saying they aren’t going to work longer hours for lower wages in unsafe conditions while corporations make record profits. In my view, if Disney can afford to compensate its CEO to the tune of $27 million, it should not be paying the workers who run their theme parks so little that they are sleeping in their cars, relying on food banks, and unable to afford to get the health care they need. Last night, the people of Chicago proved that when they stand together, they can elect leadership that will invest in the needs of working families, not the wealthy and well-connected. CONGRATULATIONS to Mayor-Elect @brandon4chicago on your win last night! Have we learned anything from the Savings and Loan disaster of the early 1990s? For too many in Washington, the answer is a resounding NO. I happen to believe that billionaires who wage illegal union busting campaigns are not above the law. The question we should be asking is not which programs we cut — it should be why aren’t we living in a society in which all of our people have a decent standard of living? Is that a Utopian vision? It really is not. @brandon4chicago knows the struggles of working families and the need to stand up for strong unions, make the rich pay their fair share, to invest in affordable housing, quality health care, better schools, and good jobs. That’s why I’m proud to endorse him for mayor of Chicago. Let me thank the 4,000+ people in the great city of Chicago who joined us this evening to hear about the need to turn out and vote in this election for @brandon4chicago. It matters who becomes mayor of Chicago, because we need someone in the mayor’s office who finally understands that we need not only job creation, but that we need jobs that provide workers with decent wages, decent benefits, with decent schedules and working conditions, and that candidate is the son of the working class — Brandon Johnson. Brandon understands what you and I know to be true — that we can bring our people together to fight for a city and a government that works for all of us, not just a handful of people at the very top. THANK YOU, CHICAGO! Credit Union 1 Arena at UIC Here’s what happens with the American people: They work longer hours, their standard of living is in decline, and they turn on their television, but they do not see a reflection of that reality in the news media. It is a bleak irony that the very same regulations which would have prevented the need for a bailout at Silicon Valley Bank were lobbied against in Washington by its CEO, Gregory Becker back in 2018. For months, Starbucks has said that the company respects the rights of workers to organize. The sad fact is that nothing could be further from the truth. You don’t have to work for nothing. You have a right to dignity. Turn on your TV, there’s the pharmaceutical industry telling you how deeply concerned they are about your problems. If they’re so “deeply concerned” about your problems, why is it that they charge you 10x more for prescription drugs than in Canada? Today, if we see large numbers of working people all across the city of Chicago turn out and vote for @brandon4chicago, we can finally begin to create a government which invests in the needs of its people. CHICAGO: the polls are open until 7 PM — VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! The people of Chicago can elect in @brandon4chicago someone who knows the struggle of working families and will fight on their behalf every day. I hope you can join me, Brandon, and @vicmensa for a rally in Chicago next Thursday night. Chicago, Illinois Today, some 55 years on from the assassination of Dr. King, let us not forget where he was at the time of his death. He was standing with striking workers in Memphis, Tennessee who were being exploited on the job. That is our struggle today and the struggle continues. How do we create more stability and job security for working class people all across the country? Raise the minimum wage. Strengthen and grow the trade union movement. Invest in our young people. That’s how we make sure every person in this country earns a living wage. Chicago deserves a mayor who will invest in the working families’ needs — affordable housing, health care, fully funded neighborhood schools, good jobs. That’s the kind of mayor @brandon4chicago will be. Join us as we rally to get out the vote this Thursday at 7 PM. TONIGHT IN CHICAGO: In electing @brandon4chicago, working families will finally have a Chicago for all of us, not just the wealthy few. Join us TONIGHT at 7 PM CT at the UIC Credit Union 1 Arena as we rally ahead of Election Day. Credit Union 1 Arena at UIC What @brandon4chicago is doing in his campaign for mayor and what I am trying to do back in Washington is something that we have got to do all over this country, and that is to build a government that works for all of us, not just the wealthy few.
