GO LAKERS
This is Dix Denney. He was a musician, a painter, a sculpter, an innovator and a maker of instruments. I am grateful to have been his friend. He yelled “wiggle your toes! Wiggle your fucking toes!” He didn’t bother talking much, but when he did it was smart and funny. I admired him and hoped he liked me. I played music with him, I ventured deep into the wilderness with him. He and his beautiful brother John formed the punk rock band The Weirdos in 1975. They were incredible and my favorite punk band of all time. Dix was gentle, kind and thoughtful. Now I find myself in mourning. Dix Denney forever. Rest in peace beautiful man, a true artist.
A king among men. Wailing out into the cosmos. The most plaintive, the most full, the most free.
New episode of my podcast is up! With Patti Smith! This Little Light! Link in bio
This sculpture by Lauren Halsey @summaeverythang is a monumental achievement. It currently lives atop The MET in New York City. I was overwhelmed and bought to tears by the sheer power of it, of everything that bought it to life. If you wanna really feel the spirit, feel something bigger than all of us, get up to the roof of the MET and trip out. That Lauren, from South Los Angeles, could capture the deep essence of her neighborhood, her family, the PFUNK mythology all in her work and that it could travel (metaphorically and logistically) this far, is mind blowing and heart filling. YES.

Ahmad Jamal, one of the best concerts I ever saw. Thank you for lighting the way Ahmad. My hero, fly on.
After much thought, preparation, and patience, the playground construction at Nickerson is underway!!! So grateful to Donny Joubert, Kevin Hunt, Hank, Edwin Schlossberg and his whole design team, Marc Benioff, The Kao Family and everyone for their donations and time and vision. All my friends at Nickerson I love you and grateful for your friendship.
This kid Ralph Yarl was shot in the head, then shot again while he was laying on the ground bleeding out. He was politely knocking on someone’s door to pick up his siblings, but had the wrong address. The resident where he knocked asked no questions just shot him in the head for knocking on the door. Ralph survived, but is not talking yet, obviously traumatized. He’s gonna need a lot of help and this is great opportunity for us as a community to help out. Here is the gofundme info to help if you can. God help us.
