Nirmal Purja Instagram – #Annapurna is a mountain I have a strong connection to – it is one of the deadliest and toughest of the 8,000ers. In a way, I feel Annapurna is like my mother – perhaps it is because I was born in this region? I don’t know, but I know I feel deeply connected to this mountain. Whenever I reach Annapurna on exped, I do feel confident that I will come home alive, despite the hundreds of avalanches. But like my mother, Annapurna doesn’t give you an easy time – you have to earn her respect – and the mountain, like my mother, has many lessons to teach. My mother loved me to bits, but I was taught everything the very hard way and she never shied away from teaching me about the brutal reality of the world. This is what Annapurna is like to me. When I climb this mountain, I feel safe deep inside, even though outside the conditions are extreme. Every time I climb this mountain, it put things into perspective for me. A big thank you mother Annapurna for being you, and allowing me and my team safe passage. For now, I will say I don’t want to come back, but I know your son will always be back to learn more.
