Happy Mother’s Day. Today is Mother’s Day in Nepal – a special day to pay tribute to our mothers and everything they have done for us. Today, I am remembering my wonderful mum, who taught me so much – and paying tribute to my beautiful wife Suchi.
If you have seen 14 Peaks, you know how hard my mum fought to be with us and I am so proud she got to see the end of the project, to see her son show the world that nothing is impossible.
I was so happy and proud to call her from the summit of Shishapangma to tell her we had completed our mission – that is still my best memory from the project. And I was so happy that she could join us at the base camp to share the celebration – it meant, and means, so much to me that she got to see us raising the name of the Nepali people and climbing community and help to inspire people to go for their own goals in life.
Today, I also want to pay tribute to my amazing wife @suchipurja – I am so grateful to be with you and I am sending all my love to you and Himani for a wonderful Mother’s Day.

#Annapurna is a mountain I have a strong connection to – it is one of the deadliest and toughest of the 8,000ers. In a way, I feel Annapurna is like my mother – perhaps it is because I was born in this region? I don’t know, but I know I feel deeply connected to this mountain.
Whenever I reach Annapurna on exped, I do feel confident that I will come home alive, despite the hundreds of avalanches. But like my mother, Annapurna doesn’t give you an easy time – you have to earn her respect – and the mountain, like my mother, has many lessons to teach. My mother loved me to bits, but I was taught everything the very hard way and she never shied away from teaching me about the brutal reality of the world. This is what Annapurna is like to me. When I climb this mountain, I feel safe deep inside, even though outside the conditions are extreme.
Every time I climb this mountain, it put things into perspective for me. A big thank you mother Annapurna for being you, and allowing me and my team safe passage. For now, I will say I don’t want to come back, but I know your son will always be back to learn more.

#Annapurna :- Climbing without O2 with no prior acclimatisation – Well, I did this on #K2Winter and now on Annapurna, but I guess never again! 😉
Normally when you climb either with O2 or without O2, you need to acclimatise. For example, when you climb K2 without O2, you need to sleep at Camp 4 ( *at roughly 8,000m,) before you attempt the summit. On #K2Winter I slept only at lower C2 and I climbed and summited with my team.
This time on Annapurna, I was only able to acclimatise up to C2 (*at 5,700m.) I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t easy – but I did it all without O2.
Climbing alone is one thing, but it is very different to lead an exped. The responsibility for the safety of my team is my number one priority. Especially when I have people with me including @tejan.g (*my brother in-law, @suchipurja asked me to keep him extra safe,) and of course my whole team – my brother @alasdair_mckenzie and two of the most inspiring women I have met, Princess of Qatar @atalthani and @anyatravler. 100% summit success on all expeds I have led.
Now I’m done with Annapurna ( I think 😉 , Currently I’m on Everest for the @eliteexped Everest & Lhotse Exped!
A lot of people ask me, when do I rest!?! I say, you get a lot of time to rest once your time on earth is over, so there’s no need to rest whilst you are alive! This is my time; this is my era to make a difference and I’m not sleeping until I’m done. Even my enemies would admire me for this. 👊🏽💥

One of the most important days on the whole exped is the Puja Ceremony. Yesterday, the whole team held a big Puja Ceremony – before attempting each exped we ask the mountain Gods to allow us to have a successful expedition. Honouring nature and traditions like this is hugely important to me and my team. It is also an important part of the team readying themselves to climb to achieve their new possible. It’s about getting into the right positive and grateful mindset – to think about the mountains and nature and ask for good fortune. Today the team started acclimatization routines and training .
