If this kills any chance of me being in a Taylor Sheridan production – I’d consider that a worthwhile response. Lol. Rich white dudes who love being white saviors ain’t my thing. Original post by @illuminative – & in collaboration w/ @janaunplgd Let’s set the record straight. Taylor Sheridan, the creator of ‘Yellowstone’, and his film Wind River were NOT responsible for the passage of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and its protections for Native women—despite his recent statement in The @HollywoodReporter. Sheridan’s claim is not only false, it’s harmful. This is yet another attempt to erase Native peoples from our own stories and ignores the decades of intense organizing and profound impact Native women, survivors, advocates, Tribal leaders and many more across Indian Country had in the passage of this law. Instead, the film he gives so much credit to centers a white savior narrative, reduces the Native women characters featured to one-dimensional subjects, largely depicted only in scenes of brutal physical and sexual violence, and perpetuates the false notion that the homicides of Native women are investigated by authorities—all of which compound the MMIP crisis. And this misrepresentation of Native peoples and issues is prevalent throughout Sheridan’s work as he fails to hire Indigenous writers or staff in any significant, decision-making roles on any productions that feature Native storylines rooted in our history and deep trauma. Taylor Sheridan, you have an opportunity to change and use your influence for good. We encourage you to sit down, listen, embrace the truth and humble yourself. Your white savior narrative erases the work of Native women and Indian Country who fight for the safety and well-being of Native women, girls and people. Indian Country will not stand for the false narratives you are promoting. The majority of Native peoples in the country agree— No More Stories About Us Without Us. Native families are under attack. Repost from @illuminative • Who is really behind the attack on the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and how will this assault impact the rights of Native Nations? The Indian Child Welfare Act is the “gold standard” of child welfare policy. Gibson Dunn’s motives to support the plaintiffs in Brackeen v Haaland PRO BONO is another strategic campaign to chip away at Tribal sovereignty – our inherent right as Native Nations to self-govern. If ICWA is overturned, the health and well-being of Native communities, lands and resources will be at risk. The U.S. has a long history of policies that attempt to weaken cultural and family connections within Native communities. We must not let any forces tear our peoples apart. Together, we can fight to #ProtectICWA. What YOU can do to help: 🪶🏛️ Swipe through to learn more about who is behind this attack on ICWA 🪶🏛️ Sign the Protect ICWA Campaign’s petition linked in our bio 🪶🏛️ Follow @ProtectICWA to stay up-to-date on the status of ICWA 🪶🏛️ Share this post with your family and friends #ProtectICWA #IndianChildWelfareAct #TribalSovereignty

The Journey of a Water Protector is an event that is scheduled on June 2-3, 2023 at Pyramid Lake, Nevada. This will be the second indigenous-led gathering in honor of Norm Harry, since 2021. The late Norm Harry was a Water Protector who provided us a legacy to honor life. His passion to protect water and lands from contamination for his people. He guarded threatened and endangered fish. He understood that toxic water and land contamination were high risks to cultural and human rights. At this event, we invite everyone in this space to become leaders, to understand community care, and to commit to protect land and water. In the 3-day event, our non-native and BIPOC community members will be driven to further understand our commitment to this world, to educate and protect the next generation through protecting land and water.

May 5th is National Day of Awareness for #MissingandMurderedIndigenousWomen and People (MMIW/P) – murder is the 3rd leading cause of death for Native women, and the majority of these murders are committed by non-Native people on Native-owned land. This demands our attention and our action. WE RIDE FOR HER is an urgent, character-driven documentary short following the journey of an Indigenous women’s motorcycle group riding to end the crisis of #MMIW/P. Today they are sharing a special #MoreToTalkAbout preview of the forces behind the film – featuring co-director Prairie Rose Seminole, Medicine Wheel Riders Lorna Cuny and Darlene Gomez, Not Invisible Act Commissioner and former North Dakota State Representative Ruth Buffalo, and actor/comedian and environmentalist Dallas Goldtooth, hosted by Level Forward’s Andrea Ambam. Joined together in conversation, they traverse the origin story and journey of the #MedicineWheelRiders and uncover the actions that all of us must take to disrupt the erasure and advocate for the end of violence against Native Women. Follow @werideforher for more information about the film and to learn more about what you can do to amplify and take action!
