Who is really behind the attack on the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and how will this assault impact the rights of Native Nations?
The Indian Child Welfare Act is the “gold standard” of child welfare policy. Gibson Dunn’s motives to support the plaintiffs in Brackeen v Haaland PRO BONO is another strategic campaign to chip away at Tribal sovereignty – our inherent right as Native Nations to self-govern.
If ICWA is overturned, the health and well-being of Native communities, lands and resources will be at risk. The U.S. has a long history of policies that attempt to weaken cultural and family connections within Native communities. We must not let any forces tear our peoples apart. Together, we can fight to #ProtectICWA.
