Misha Collins Instagram – This is what Irpin forest looks like. Just 26 kilometers from Kyiv. It was occupied by the russian army during the first month of the war. 15,000 russian soldiers, ammunition depots, and artillery stations took part in the shelling of Irpin and nearby villages. The Ukrainian military liberated Kyiv Oblast at the end of March 2022, but the forest was partially demined only 2 weeks ago. Only one path is walkable, only when accompanied by de-miners, with little room for maneuvering. Our ambassador Misha Collins, and First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, @svyrydenko.official , were the first to visit this once-inhabited place. “In Ukraine, there are thousands of square acres of land contaminated with landmines. Many of them are on agricultural land, but they are also found in forests, on roads, and in homes, in children’s toys, pianos, and refrigerators. The humanitarian demining operation across Ukraine is a complex and large project. I have worked with @gilesduley and the @legacyofwarfoundation in Laos for the last couple of years. Where the demining program has been going on since the 70s. However, even today, tragedies happen there every day — children lose limbs because of mines. This will be a massive problem for Ukraine for a very long time. But we can save tens of thousands of lives by implementing the demining program as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Misha Collins. В перший місяць війни його окупувала російська армія. Тут розміщувалися 15 000 військових, склади з боєприпасами та артилерійські установки, з яких обстрілювали Ірпінь та прилеглі села. Українські військові звільнили Київщину ще наприкінці березня 2022-го, але ліс частково розмінували тільки два тижні тому. Ходити тут можна лише однією доріжкою, нікуди не звертаючи, і тільки у супроводі саперів.
