If a Native American name is a slur like the Washington Redskins or the Atlanta Braves tomahawk chop… change it.
If the name honors the heritage of a local Indian tribe like Chief Tackapausha and the Massapequa Indians… the name should remain.
If you’re going to take away the name of the mascot that we have honored, respected, cherish and celebrated for generations then you might as well take the name Massapequa off the high school altogether.
In fact… you should remove the name Massapequa from the town altogether.
