Amanda Jolly Instagram – Alright y’all, I’m rising back to life! Kicking us off, some Jessica Drew!
I got brought into Across the Spider-verse in its earliest days as one of the first, if not the first, full-time character designer on the team. Jess was one of my earliest assignments, and she went through a lot of designs. Per the comics, the character is white, but after some initial passes, we started playing with race. Finally, I arrived at this version of her inspired by some incredible black women, wanting to really play up an athletic build and the impact of her hair. Also, since her motorcycle is a huge part of her, we worked to skew her outfit toward moto details in the ribbing, padding, and style of jacket. BUT MORE ON THAT LATER! 🙂
