Tried to tell Son 3 last night that 35 years ago on our first Challenge we froze over the River Thames, right behind where we were standing. We then assembled an orchestra – and Henry Mancini turned up to conduct the 1812 Overture to an ice skating and firework accompanied. In the middle of the Thames. For Children in Need. Well this is a bit of a mind altering moment. Someone sent me this clip of me landing at an Oxford University college in 1986 on a Treasure Hunt. . I have absolutely no memory of this. Not so strange in itself EXCEPT THIS IS THE COLLEGE WHERE ONE OF MY SONS ENDED UP 30 years or so later. . All that time I visited him. Walked on that lawn. Admired the view. Thrilled and honoured to become a Patron @foalfarmanimalrescue . I loved the Challenge we did for them last year and was touched and inspired by the passionate care given to all the stray dogs and the support offered to their new owners. The staff are utterly dedicated to animal welfare. We filmed the Challenge in the winter, in the middle of a recession, yet volunteers poured in to help. People are wonderful and we need to celebrate volunteers everywhere. It was lovely yesterday to see so many wheelchair-users enjoying it. This garden will be relocated to the Princess Royal spinal injuries centre in Sheffield. I adore everything about this charity. My 3 favourite people this week @charloharris @hugobugg and the utterly inspirational Dr Olivia Chapple @horatiosgarden . The designers @harrisbuggstudio cared SO much about getting the garden right for people in wheelchairs, or else flat on their backs on a hospital bed, often traumatised after an accident that has changed their life. You can wheel beds into the garden pod, where there is a glorious opening to the sky above. Please vote for them before 7pm for the People’s Choice Award. Just go onto the BBC website and it’s easy!
