This inspiring grassroots movement led me to wonder what else I could do to help. Energized by the work of @here4thekidsaction, I created this PSA with the help of a generous cast and crew made up entirely of volunteers, concerned parents, and conscientious industry professionals. In it, they risked putting their names, faces, time, and talents into confronting the most terrifying of topics in order to bring attention to the growing momentum of #here4thekids. The list of collaborators is long and I can’t thank them enough for joining me in this work. With this contribution, I join @here4thekidsaction in respectfully challenging fellow white folx to use their power and privilege to exact change. No one is exempt from the tragedy of gun violence, it affects us all. This is not someone else’s work to be done. Guns are the #1 killer of children in America. Within our email, we told the Governor that his surrender to the Second Amendment has resulted in the ongoing genocide of children in the United States and that we will no longer abide by this surrender and yield to personal and systemic failure. We implored him to seize this moment to sign this historic executive order and claim unprecedented victory. In this training, Myisha will discuss the skills needed to show empathy in a range of scenarios, including when listening to gun enthusiasts and apologists who are against the idea of banning guns; watching the tone policing of Black and Brown activists leading this initiative; and your own feelings of tension around this movement.
