David Göttler Instagram – The base camp on the Rupal side of Nanga Parbat ranks in my top 3 favourite basecamps of all 8k peaks. Take a look at the photos to see why. To be on an 8000m peak climb, yet with a base camp on a beautiful green meadow full of life is both unusual and a treat for the sense. I was reminded of home by multiple groups of visiting donkeys, and reminded of how far into the wild we were when I saw a wolf (3rd slide!) for the first time in my life. It’s a truly beautiful place, that makes this side of the mountain really special, even if it means that the vertical distance to the summit is a galling 4500m!
