Malcolm-Jamal Warner Instagram – This is gonna be hard for some people to hear, but this is all facts. And he spit this 50 years ago. And before you get in here and defend the Jesus he talks about, first be clear what Jesus and God you’re defending. The ones that fit the colonizer’s narrative? Until we can ALL accept America the Beautiful AND America the Ugly, we will always be at odds. And we have to recognize that it’s been designed this way. We who are not a part of the 1% are all in the same boat. We are intentionally distracted by racism when classicism is the true issue. We’re all being oppressed by the same system but as long as we remain distracted, we remain ignorant. We have to get out of our comfort zones. We have to do the work to study how our collective history as fellow Americans is intertwined. As you celebrate Independence Day, recognize that on July 4, 1776, ALL of us were not free to be independent. Thus this day, like “Thanksgiving,” hits different for a lot of Americans. So eat, drink, and be merry, but also raise your consciousness. Together, we still have a lot of work to do.
