The books are so rigorously checked and resourced and researched. To write the book we literally assembled a team of professors, doctors, researchers, sex educators, people who are experts in abuse prevention and body safety education.
All we wanted to do was the absolute best for our young readers. It was crucial to our personal ethics. So there is no insecurity nor concern from me about Welcome to Sex.
What does concern me is impunity:
The impunity with which men think that they can attack women.
It’s a concern of mine and it will continue to be an ongoing concern, and the best way these abusers can be called to account is by shining a light on them.
It’s all their own shitty words from their own shitty minds, posted from their own shitty accounts.

I won’t tag her – or the bookshop because cookers think it’s ok to abuse retail staff and business owners for stocking a book.
They also think it’s ok to abuse me and others for posting about the book.
I’m really proud of WELCOME TO SEX. It was authored by myself and Associate Professor of Adolescent Health, the revered and (extremely) intellectually and academically rigorous Dr Melissa Kang. As part of our research we interviewed stakeholders in preventing sexual abuse, educators who go into schools to talk about sexual safety, sexologists, therapists, frontline doctors, nurses and many, many teenagers.
It’s A BOOK, PEOPLE. If you don’t want to read it, by all means, don’t read it. If you don’t want your kids to read it, you REALLY don’t have to buy it for them.
Oh. Also, my cookbook THE FOOD FIX came out this week. Thanks everyone who’s been buying it in solidarity! 🤣

I made pumpkin semolina gnocchi, HOW’S YOUR WEEKEND GOING??
This was amazing.
Smug afterglow🌅 = sunbaking but in winter.
1.5 litres milk (I used soy)
Warmed to infuse with 1 bay leaf, 2 tsp nutritional yeast, pinch saffron, 1 tsp truffle salt. Brought to a low boil.
Rained in 375g fine semolina
Cooked 5 mins
Removed from heat 😎
Added 200g grated aged cheddar🧀, 300g cooked pumpkin, mixed well (I used the stand mixer), poured into 2 trays (you only see 1), and allowed to chill in the fridge for a few hours.
Served sliced into triangles then grilled to golden bubbling hot with cheese + pine nuts on top then a light grated tomato 🍅 sauce.

The problem is, my new found literacy put me off.
I can’t be doing all that work for a simple weeknight curry! No way.
So now I am full circle back to a traditional, trustworthy curry powder. I spent ages experimenting to discover the PERFECT chicken curry recipe – that can be thrown together without going overboard with additional flavours, spices and prep. I just want something reliable and easy.
Well, after much research, this is it. 🍛👏🏽

Cherry Tomato and Garlic Smoosh:
When the cold sets in, it’s not a bad idea to load up on garlic. First up, while it’s cooking it makes your house smell AMAZING, and second, it wards off colds and vampires!
To make, you need cute little pots (ramekins).
Fill them with cherry tomatoes 🍅, herbs, garlic, a LOT of black pepper, salt and olive oil.
Bake on low for 1 – 1.5 hours.
Yummy smells in your house!
Then eat it hot, smooshed on bread, on pasta. (See final video for extremely satisfying “smoosh” action.)
It’s also very good cooled and used as a condiment.
I took some on a winter picnic the other day and we stuffed the tomatoes into sourdough baguette 🥖 with ham and cheese. Delicious, easy, made me look like a genius cook!
