Kevin Smith Instagram – This is the face of 53 – which I turned today. But 53 years ago, my selfish streak started when I committed the crime of being born on my brother Don’s birthday. For his first three years, Donald enjoyed his own birthday, and all the inherent attention that comes with it. Then, like the dawning of a dark age came the annus horribilis of 1970, when for my brother’s 4th birthday, he received the gift of an attention hogging time terrorist, who took up permanent residence on his special day, absorbing it as his own. And ever since then, Don has had to share the only gift nobody can ever take away from you with an insatiable black hole of a brother who sucks away all the attention. So Happy Birthday not to me, but to my beloved brother Donald, my favorite audience member, who made me realize I was funny in the first place and instilled in me the only class I’ve ever exhibited; whose sense of humor and musical taste influenced my own; whose Wacky Packages I stole and who gave me my first Mad Magazines; who always augmented my meager finances during my late teens and early 20’s. Thank you, my only brother, for graciously sharing your birthday with me for over half a century, and for being a role model I’m still trying to match. I love you to death, Don! #KevinSmith #birthday
