From the latest episode of our new @getumbo Podcast Suga Snake Take’s. When I first started in MMA, there was no regulation except in Vegas. Everywhere else, we’d fight at “smokers” in bingo halls, where the whole place was filled with cigarette and cigar smoke. It was crazy – you’d be fighting and exerting yourself, breathing in 10 packs of cigarettes. I once entered a smoker tournament and had to fight 2-3 guys in one night to prove myself. You’d make $500-1000 for winning, barely covering medical bills, so I had to avoid getting cut. The smoke impacted cardio – I tried ending fights fast, because if it went 3 rounds I’d be cooked from breathing all that smoke while fighting. The early MMA days were rough, but we found a way through it. 🥊
