Hilarie Burton Instagram – I was given great advice awhile back by my dear friend @tara_shafer to take solo trips with each of my kids whenever I could. That one-on-one attention is so important. So last night, Gus and I trekked to Manteo to catch @thelostcolony show. Fun fact: while everyone else was getting drunk at senior year beach week, I made my friends come to this show with me. The Lost Colony is a HUGE deal if you’re a theater kid from the NC/VA area. It’s the original outdoor drama and is currently in its 86th year….That’s insane! (point of reference, Phantom of the Opera ran for a measly 35 years) So many members of the Outer Banks community have nurtured this show over the years and it’s alumni are a who’s who of familiar tv faces and local heroes. My dude loves theater and so it was fun to go on the backstage tour (thank you to our guides!) where he was allowed to put on Andy Griffith’s armor from his time in the production. Pretty soon this teenager will be too cool for his ol mom, so I’ll take these dates any time I can get em. Xo
Hilarie Burton Instagram – Wanna hear a story about how I got started in podcasting? It’s all thanks to the one and only @amahnke . I’d become a big fan of his show @lorepodcast , and it became the thing I would listen to with my son every day to spark conversation and light up his imagination. I fangirled over Aaron on social media and told him that I too was interested in subject matter that was offbeat and macabre. I’d had an idea for a podcast brewing but had no idea how the medium worked. Jeffrey happened to be filming a movie in Massachusetts, and that man dropped what he was doing to come over and bring his books to my son and walk me through the entire business model for creating a successful podcast. Time is precious. And so when people give you their time, it is so important to say thank you. Aaron was the last person we saw before the world shut down in 2020, and his books and stories and podcasts were a life raft for us. (This is a picture from that night. Look how little the kids were!) I am so grateful for Aaron’s generosity and guidance. It was a joy to finally work together on his show @bridgewaterpod. So now, I want you to go follow him and all his shows on @grimandmild and prepare yourselves for his NEW show launching this week!!! “That’s Just Weird” is a weekly show that covers weird news and weird history in a short, kid-friendly format that’s super delightful to hear. Honestly, I plan to make this a part of my weekly listening, and hope you will too! Tell Aaron I sent you!! Let’s get weird. Xoxox
