El Yasuní, el lugar con mayor biodiversidad del mundo y hogar de personas en aislamiento voluntario, no es un lugar para el petróleo. ¡Y la mayoría de la gente estuvo de acuerdo! Esto es enorme para un país cuya economía ha dependido del petróleo durante los últimos 50 años, pero ayer la gente decidió que es una industria que ha fallado en traer riqueza y seguridad al país. Es hora de una nueva economía que valore la biodiversidad y empleos que no estén ligados a la extracción. Y para eso necesitamos nuevos líderes con visión que nos guíen en este momento de transición en nuestra historia. The Yasuní rainforest, the most biodiverse place on earth and home to people in voluntary isolation is no place for oil. And the majority of the people agreed! This is huge for a country whose economy has depended on oil for the last 50 years, but yesterday the people agreed that it’s an industry that does has failed at brining wealth and security the the country. It’s time for a new economy that values biodiversity and jobs not involved in extraction. And for that we need new leaders with vision, to guide us through this transitional time in our history. Congratulations to the small but powerful grassroots movement who made this moment possible.
