There comes a time when every business needs additional capital to grow and many of these businesses turn to venture capital (VC) for a financial boost. As a brand specialist, I get to see this situation from both sides. I work with companies looking for venture capital funding, and I work with a lot of private equity and VC firms. So, I know that in a market that’s highly competitive for founders and entrepreneurs, a powerful brand strategy (and a stellar pitch deck) can make all the difference in taking the next step toward early-stage funding. Many startups make the mistake of delaying these essential branding activities until their financials are fully resolved. They underestimate the importance of branding but, try to think about it from a venture capital firm’s perspective: If you’re not engaged enough to build your brand with the quality and professionalism your customers expect and deserve, they’re going to wonder what else is missing from your strategy. After all, how can they trust that you’re going to offer a strong product if you’ve neglected building your brand at the most basic level? In my latest article for @entrepreneur I explain how branding can positively impact your journey to attract venture capital. https://www.entrepreneur.com/starting-a-business/2-things-you-need-to-gain-a-venture-capital-edge/433262 #entrepreneur #venturecapital #branding #pitchdeck #preteecreative

“Your network is your net worth” – isn’t this statement undeniably true? Entrepreneurship is an exhilarating journey filled with rewards, but it’s not without its challenges. Among them, the feeling of loneliness is common. When you’re solely responsible for your business, the weight of decision-making can lead to isolation. However, surrounding yourself with understanding and empathetic individuals can make a world of difference. Having a network of like-minded people creates a sense of belonging and transforms the game. They provide invaluable support, guidance, and a safe space to share ideas and overcome challenges. So, actively seek out like-minded individuals, engage in networking events, and foster relationships with mentors and peers. Surrounding yourself with the right people can help alleviate the loneliness, provide valuable support, and propel your entrepreneurial journey forward. #preteecreative #yournetworkisyournetworth #business #branding
“You can do 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 but not 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨”. This is a mantra I constantly say to myself. Running a business is stressful, and you can’t do it all. It’s exhausting in so many ways, and this exhaustion can lead to burnout or even worse, a loss of entrepreneurial passion. It’s difficult to trust other people with your business, but delegating tasks is critical in avoiding burnout. I remember when I first started and I thought I could do it all. I wanted to do everything because, at the time, it seemed “easier” and more cost-effective. I knew what needed to be done, and I was worried about finding the right people – so, instead, I overworked myself. Once I started building my team, things changed. Now, I focus more on working 𝘰𝘯 my agency, not only 𝘪𝘯 my agency. I’d have never had the energy or the resources to work with major companies like Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, and The Motley Fool if I kept trying to be a “one-woman show.” In hiring other people to help me with administrative and executional tasks, I’ve been able to slide into my ‘𝘡𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘶𝘴’ where I capitalize on my natural abilities and focus on the things I’m good at. In particular, I enjoy (and am skilled at!) creating brand names for companies of all sizes…and now, I have the time and energy to concentrate on that element of my business. (If you want to learn more about the ‘Zone of Genius,’ check out The Big Leap by psychologist Gay Hendricks.) Then, of course, there are other ways to prevent burnout, like setting boundaries, learning how to say “no,” taking breaks, going outside daily, and prioritizing self-care. And once in a while, I encourage you to get on a “very tight schedule of not getting anything done!” (Glass of wine optional 😉) How do you avoid burnout? What do you do to disconnect from work? #preteecreative
Imposter syndrome. We’ve all been there. That nagging feeling that we’re not good enough or that our achievements are merely strokes of luck. Let’s delve into a personal experience that sheds light on this all-too-familiar struggle. I once had the incredible opportunity to work with a major corporation on naming one of their brands. As a brand specialist and naming expert, it was a chance to showcase my skills and add another renowned name to my portfolio. In the first round, I presented a few names, fully aware that this stage primarily served to gather feedback and align with their preferences. To my surprise, the response I received brimmed with excitement and admiration. They loved some of the names I had proposed and appreciated that I listened attentively, ensuring the names reflected the strategy brief they had provided. They shared that prior to hiring me, the company had already worked with three top agencies in the world, yet none of their name suggestions had left an impression. Hearing those words meant the world to me. However, despite the validation from clients throughout my career, imposter syndrome continued to cast its shadow. It whispered self-doubt, causing me to question my ability to consistently deliver the right name for my clients. But here’s the truth: imposter syndrome is a common companion on our journey to success. It serves as a reminder that we’re pushing boundaries, stepping outside our comfort zones, and striving for excellence. Yet, we should never allow it to hold us back. Our accomplishments, the positive feedback from clients, and the impact we create serve as reminders of our expertise and talent.
