Robert Gant Instagram – Reflections from the dance floor as summer wanes. I was scrolling through some Queer as Folk Season 2 pics and spotted these from our QAF nightclub Babylon. (I do realize the green dance floor lighting makes us somewhat Incredible Hulk-like.) Felt like appropriate end of summer fare to share. The dance floor and the club are long and enduring legacies of our journey as gay people. Going back to the secret, clandestine clubs where we were first able to meet and find each other. (The first gay bar I went to in my home town of Tampa was a cinderblock building that had no windows.) The dance floor meant freedom and play and celebration while also being the source of some challenge. Connection and yet disconnection. The drinks and intoxicants, while a key part of our freedom and celebration, for some of us also became a crutch and, sometimes, an addiction. But that’s another (important) story. Regardless, the dance floor will always be one of those places we can express our freedom, our celebration, and our love. As it was for Ben, Michael, and the gang.
