Neil Young at The Roxy
Crazy Horse and crazy circles.
I finally got to see one of my favorite singer songwriters Neil Young at the 50th anniversary of the legendary venue… The Roxy on the Sunset Strip.
There are so many epic, historic intertwining connections to this event:
1. Neil Young and Crazy Horse played at the 50th anniversary of the Roxy to benefit the Bridge School and The Painted Turtle. They also played under the name Neil Young and the Santa Monica Flyers at the opening of The Roxy 50 years ago in September 1973.
2. The owner of the Roxy… legendary record, producer Lou Adler and his lovely wife Page were, of course, there.
3. Neil Young is married to actor Daryl Hannah and Lou Adler is married to Daryl’s sister Page Hannah.
4. Lou Adler produced The Mama’s and the Papa’s, Jan and Dean, Carole King’s Tapestry, Barry McGuire, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and directed Cheech and Chong’s Up In Smoke to name a few.
5. Lou also produced The Monterey Pop Festival with Chynna’s parents John and Michelle Phillips… featuring The Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Janice Joplin, Otis Redding, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Steve Miller Band, Simon and Garfunkel, The Mama’s and the Papa’s… and many others.
6. Lou is Chynna’s Godfather. ♥️
7. Chynna and I went to the show with Mama Michelle. We had the honor of sitting with Dean Torrence from Jan and Dean and we also ran into our friends Rob Lowe and his wife Sheryl Berkoff.
