23 year old Jaahnavi Kandula, an Indian immigrant studying at Seattle’s Northeastern University, was struck by Seattle police officer Kevin Dave. Her body was thrown more than 100 feet away. She was taken to a hospital. She died.
Eight months after the incident, Seattle Police Department released bodycam footage at the scene from Officer Daniel Auderer, VP of the Seattle Police Officers Guild. He is speaking to another officer. His recorded words: “She is dead.” He laughs. “No, it’s a regular person.” He laughs again. “Let’s write a cheque. $11,000. She had limited value.”
@HinduSamata, an instagram account hitting over 1 million likes after posting about #JusticeForJaahnavi, has been suspended by Instagram.
Many accounts have followed suit.
