When we first started on this collage, I told Wilson that I wanted to create something celebrating Asians with art and story as a vehicle. We decided to focus on the beauty of all the Asian art, people, and movements being shut down by the hand of oppression, taking inspiration from the Basquiat collage style. I wanted my mother’s light to be greater than
the hand of oppression, because she and other mother figures in my life have always been the image in my mind as I’ve fought back in my own life. Cheers to the power of mother. Thank you Wilson, for creating this piece.
