@ctvchristine has been covering the @montrealblackfilmfest for close to 19 years. She witnessed our humble beginnings and always encouraged me. I remember my first interview with her, where she said: we’re here because what you’re doing is important.
At that time, there was no Black Lives matter movement, no diversity or BIPOC incentives or funding programs. She was there because she truly believed in the importance of diversity off/on screen.
Thanks Christine Long for your loyal support!!!
Catch my interview with her on CTV at 5PM.
And join us at the Festival!!!

Don’t miss this spectacular film and historic moment! #OpeningFilm: THE SPACE RACE (la course vers l’espace) opens the 19th Montreal Intl Black Film Festival This Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023. 7PM Imperial Theatre. (avec sous-titre français). The film also features Col. Guion S. Bluford who made history as the first Black astronaut in space as a mission specialist in 1983.
THE SPACE RACE uncovers the little-known stories of the first black pilots, engineers and scientists to become astronauts. Simultaneously championed and exploited as political pawns, some made it to space, while others were erased from history. For the first time, THE SPACE RACE puts their lived experiences back into the space exploration narrative and uncovers what it means for the next generation of black astronauts.
