After Sinead O’Connor appeared on SNL, her life had been turned upside down. She was banned from NBC. She had been condemned by entire populaces. Her peer group, from Madonna to Frank Sinatra, turned on her and denounced her. O’Connor wrote about the immediate aftermath after getting off the SNL stage “All doors have closed. Everyone has vanished. Including my own manager, who locks himself in his room for three days and unplugs his phone.”
13 days later, she appeared at Madison Square Garden to perform at a Bob Dylan 30th anniversary tribute show featuring an all-star bill including George Harrison, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder, Roger McGuinn, the Band, Eric Clapton, Tracy Chapman, Chrissie Hynde, and Lou Reed. She was introduced by legendary outlaw country singer Kris Kristofferson. As she got on stage she was met with a loud chorus of boos. Clearly rattled, an apprehensive O’Connor froze up. Kristofferson returned to the stage and told her “don’t let the bastards get you down” to which she simply told him “I’m not down.”
O’Connor regained her composure and the band began to play but she waved them off to stop playing. She then burst into an unrestrained a cappella rendition of Bob Marley’s “War”. For those couple minutes, O’Connor looked possessed with determination to get through it. She finished her performance. After finishing and as the boos began to rain down again, she left the stage and into the arms of Kristofferson where she sobbed while he consoled her.

Rest In Peace Paul Reubens.
As Pee Wee Herman he was the Mister Rogers for the misfits and counter culture. He made being weird and awkward a super power.
I met him a few times and ever since without fail on every birthday Paul would send me texts morning till night usually of gif’s of birthday jokes and cake being smashed in faces. I loved it and looked forward to the flurry of messages he sent.
He was funny, shy and a bit misunderstood. Thank you for the laughs and making all the nerd feel understood and seen. Paul, rest easy 💔
That time I was nominated for a Golden Globe and took my dad as my date. This year I am nominated for an Emmy and I hope to take my mom…😊

Your unbelievable character invention of Pee Wee Herman, which taught us how to be funny, interesting but always thoughtful. Then I became an adult and met you as an adult in a way and was fascinated even more by your bravery to rise and fall, to only rise again but this time you removed the mask to reveal that you were still all the things you were before, what a privilege to have been raised by you in a way. RP @sierraswan I post this every once and awhile because I love it. I love how I sang it this particular night. I had just put my son to bed and had the song in my head all day. The Everly family are so close to my heart, and I had the luxury of knowing Phil Everly throughout my childhood. The most lovely man, and had so much pride being a left handed human like myself, my sis and my Dad, my poor mom. She dealt with a lot of kooky shit between the 3 of us.
