Today kicks off #InternationalDarkSkiesWeek! 🌌 So, why should we value #darkskies? Here are three ways light at night affects human health:
🧑⚕️A new study found that outdoor light at night increases the risk of diabetes by impairing blood glucose control. (Over 9 million cases of diabetes in Chinese adults were attributed to light exposure at night)
😴Too much exposure to artificial lighting at night slows down the production of melatonin (our main sleep hormone) in humans, making it harder to fall asleep and sleep soundly.
🧠Over time, sleep disruption can lead to health complications including unhealthy weight gain and brain fog.
