Repost @nativetexaspark ******************************* Pecan (Carya illinoinensis) This State Tree of Texas is well represented in the park. They surround the outer circle of the Ceremonial Drive that leads to the Institute and are many other places in the park. According to the LBJWC site—Pecan is one of the most valuable cultivated plants originating in North America. Thomas Jefferson planted seeds at Monticello and gave some to George Washington; now these Pecans are the oldest trees in Mount Vernon. Location in the park:  Savanna and Woodland. 7/8/23
