And sure, I worked hard and never gave up, but I’m also not naive to the fact that I was born into a situation filled with privilege. Have I ever encountered sexism? Sure. But it didn’t stop me from getting an education. Have I ever been verbally harassed by a man while walking down the street? Definitely. But I didn’t have to marry him at the age of 14. I’m not saying my struggles aren’t valid, but I’m aware that the implications of being a woman are much different depending on where you live. And all I’m trying to do is help my sisters in India live the life they want for themselves, just like I’ve been able to do. And chances are, like you’ve been able to do. For my Birthday (which is on Sept 26th), I do not need flowers, cupcakes or anything else.
