Lisa Ray Instagram – I am more and more exhausted and disenchanted by public spaces – both real and virtual- and the constant call on our attention. Ironically, when I disconnect I feel a more urgent interconnection with the subtle magic of the world coupled with a renewed vigor to ‘go digging in my own soil’ for meaning.

@katherinemay_ is an alchemist of the highest order. Her latest, #Enchantment is the book your soul is crying out for. She begins by cataloguing in personal detail the all too familiar universal ways our lives have come unravelled: ‘Lately I can’t read a whole page of a book. It is frictionless, this sliding of attention. It’s as if some kind of lubrication has been applied to my choices. I intend to do one thing, but my unconscious shunts me discreetly away…If there were a spirit of this age it would look a lot like fear. For years now we’ve been running like rabbits. We glimpse a flash of a white tail, read the danger signal and run, flashing our own white tail behind us. It’s a chain reaction, a river of terror surging incoherently onwards, gathering up other wild, alert bodies who in turn signal their own danger. There is no one predator from which to escape; there are many. We are in the business of running now.’

But in the midst of collective despair and exhaustion, Katherine resurrects something so fundamental to our humanity, that the notion startles:
‘I have lost some fundamental part of my knowing, some elemental human feeling. I need a better way to walk through this life again. I want to be enchanted.

Enchantment is not only sparked by grand things. The awe-inspiring, the numinous, is all around us, all the time. It is transformed by our deliberate attention. It becomes valuable when we value it. The magic is of our own conjuring.’

I simply can’t recommend this balm for our times enough.
