❤️As the Stars are Known to the Night. I absolutely loved reading Martin Amis. His fictional characters are alive and corrupt. His cinematic knack for names and his voice loom large in my mind entering how I see situations and, of course style. Nicola Six, Tod D. Friendly, John Self and even, Koba the Dread [ Stalin’s nickname]. His analysis of the brutalism of Stalin is ultimately a dark satire and a personal rebuke of his Father and best friend, Christopher Hitchens. Who else could write about Stalin’s last day and how his electronic system of communication with his staff and their crippling fear of him ultimately killed him over his last cup of tea? Amis wrote “I have no patience for anything experimental or obscure – above all, obscure. I have to know at all times exactly what’s going on. I’m very committed to the pleasure principle. You read literature to have a good time. Or why else would people go on doing it?”
I ❤️Ping Pong.
