As much as it was the right decision to remove McCarthy, I think we all felt the gravity of the moment. The speakership has been vacated for the first time in over a century. It’s up to Republicans now to get their act together and nominate someone whose word has meaning.
Today’s committee hearing was nothing more than an opportunity for Republicans in Congress to shill for the twice impeached former president. To serve as his defense counsel and interfere with his prosecution. Heres what I had to say today during the hearing:
Nobody told the Attorney General to indict Trump. Especially not President Biden. The decision was left up to the Special Counsel. And the grand jury found more than enough evidence to indict. Regardless of the lies Trump continues to peddle.
Kevin McCarthy’s announcement of a bogus impeachment inquiry into President Biden is based on two things: McCarthy’s weakness as speaker, and his willingness to do Trump’s bidding. It’s certainly not based on evidence or facts.
Republicans in Congress know that the falsehoods they continue to peddle have resulted in dangerous levels of political violence. It is putting people’s lives at risk. It’s putting our very democracy at risk. They just don’t seem to care.
I had the privilege of meeting the incredible @reginaspektor in celebration of Rosh Hashanah at the Vice President’s home! Truly a huge fan! My favorite song? Apres Moi. What’s yours?

President Zelensky’s leadership in the fight for Ukraine’s freedom is inspiring. It was powerful to hear him share his vision and plans for the future. Democrats and Republicans need to stand together and stand with Ukraine.
I was proud to see the Protecting Our Democracy Act pass in the House last Congress — and some of its provisions signed into law. Now we must finish the job. It’s time to pass the entire package and codify its reforms, so that we can prevent presidential abuses of power by any future occupant of the White House.

I stand with Artsakh’s 120,000 residents, and the Armenian diaspora defending them. Azerbaijan’s illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor must end. The US recognized the Armenian Genocide and said never again. We must do more than pledge. We must act.

As the House considers the Defense Appropriations Bill, Rep. Auchincloss and I are urging Congress to cut off aid to Azerbaijan. The ongoing blockade of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan has cut off essential aid to over 120,000 people. Time is of the essence. The blockade must end.
Survivors of rape and sexual assault shouldn’t have to wait months or years at a time for the evidence of their assault to be tested. We must eliminate rape kit backlogs so survivors get can get obtain justice and security.
Artists get almost nothing when their music is used — or goes viral — on platforms like TikTok. I asked the Director of the U.S. Copyright Office what can be done to change that. We must ensure that musicians and other artists get the compensation they deserve.
There were over a thousand train derailments in just the last year. Some, like in East Palestine, had devastating consequences for communities and rail workers. Our bill would ensure much-needed safety measures and the paid sick leave rail workers deserve. Let’s get it done.
Happy Labor Day! Workers are the backbone of our economy, but too many are struggling to make ends meet. I will always fight for fair wages, better benefits, and stronger protections for workers and their families.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit the San Ysidro port of entry, and to meet with environmental justice, immigration and other local leaders in Imperial Beach to discuss a wide range of issues. I look forward to teaming up with them to make progress on immigration reform, and to act with urgency on cross-border pollution issues.

On Women’s Equality Day, we acknowledge the generations of women who paved the way. But the fight is far from over, and their legacy is our guide as we continue the struggle to fight discrimination, protect abortion access, close the gender pay gap, and so much more.
