Practicing cylinders for a while. This is 5” diameter, 5 lbs and I’ve been told I can be getting 20” of height (that’s where the gauge is set). Not there yet but that’s what PRACTICE IS FOR
I decided last year when I started to have one shot at a teapot every March as a sort of “test” of my skill progression. This is the latest (lid mad loose, had to pull a handle due to my sense of proportion for a hump thrown handle being way off). Second picture is of my first teapot test. Definitely improving, but gotta keep going!

When absurd is profound
Been exploring small lidded jars, working my way up towards repeating forms (here the focus was repeating a lid diameter). Messing with trying some slip designs as well but this glaze doesn’t highlight it as much – may need to mix up my own clear glaze.
9” serving bowl, thrown for a friend who throws dinner parties. KGBS, with white glaze.
Three lidded forms. Learned a lot. The first things I’ve made from glazes I mixed up myself, with the goal of trying to be deliberate with glazes, clay body, and form.
Trimming, final product and where it started. Trimmed what some ceramicists would call a “criminal amount” from the lower half, but I find that taking projects to completion makes me improve faster than focusing on just one aspect and drilling, say, throwing cylinders.

I’ve been working with creative teams for 10 years now, and it’s still hard. Link to the full video in my Linktree
