Mahathir Mohamad Instagram – I would like to congratulate organisers of LIMA’23. The 16th edition of LIMA has been one of the best we have had since its inception in 1991. There have been many achievements since. When the idea of an air show in Langkawi was proposed, it was felt that there was a special need to showcase aircraft that would interest a region that is becoming wealthier and where air travel is not just a convenience but a necessity due to its geography. I am confident that the LIMA exhibition will continue to improve in the future. It is a showcase for Malaysia, and the country has made significant progress in the aerospace and maritime industries since the first LIMA. I also hope that this exhibition will have an impact on the talent development of young people, encouraging them to explore opportunities in aerospace and maritime industries. I have been asked why LIMA is hosted in Langkawi. We chose Langkawi because it has few tall buildings and fewer people. Additionally, being an island, it is easier to have demonstrations over the sea rather than over-populated areas. In my speech back in 1991, I mentioned that LIMA is not just an aerospace exhibition but also a marine exhibition. Combining the two is why Langkawi is the most suitable location for this joint exhibition. Congratulations and keep up the good work! #lima2023 Langkawi Island
