The work of these women to overcome the trauma of war, sexual violence, and inequality is astounding. They work in small groups to support one another, educate one another, and heal. I don’t know how to do selfie faces, but I DO know how to do acting faces. And I feel so grateful to my union siblings @sagaftra who know how to have fun on a picket line. As Annie said today, actors are EXCELLENT at being out of work. This part doesn’t scare us. We’ll wait for a fair deal from the studios, because this is the moment for it. And we also stand in solidarity with @teamsters fighting for a fair deal with UPS, and with the hotel workers, and with the writers and all of the other amazing people organizing in this #summeroflabour Also I don’t think I’ve ever been sweatier outside of a sauna.

#henrychirpa and I love nothing more than sitting in a trailer on set. I get to do what I love at work, he gets treats, everyone is happy. But…everyone is not actually happy. Our @sagaftra contract expires tomorrow at midnight and negotiations continue til then. We’ll see what it brings, but membership voted for a strike authorization with almost 98%. So we could strike next week. Ours is kind of a crazy union in that our members include some of the most famous people in the world. Most unions don’t have that visibility. It’s helpful, but it can also distract from our position in a broader movement. And this moment in labour organizing feels very, very important. Strong unions (along with meaningful anti-monopoly regulation) are really the best way I’ve seen to address income inequality, abuses at work, and to see a fair distribution of profits. Look, labour is pisssssed. And rightly so. Monopolies abound, costs of business are foisted on workers, new technology is unregulated and under-researched, and inequality is at Gilded Age peaks. This is a note to say I love that I get to do what I do, and am grateful. But the AMPTP better listen up to our demands because this is a labour moment. The folks @wgaeast and @wgawest could probably say it better because they’re writers. And the folks @iatse built so much power in their last negotiations. And @teamsters I mean come on. It’s really f$cking cool to be alongside them right now, and all the other locals. Okay, that’s it. Got to give Henry some more treats.

Where would my life be without #henrychirpa ? He’s my constant companion, cuddle buddy, trash eater, treat fanatic. We met at @santedorrescue because he’d rolled up to our shelter director’s backyard matted, scared, with double Cherry eye. And had somehow found his way to a no-kill shelter. He wasn’t great on a leash, he didn’t love meeting men, he had some issues that needed healing. But we got through our sh!t together, like best friends do! Gosh I’m grateful to be a member of a union. Imagine me by myself saying ‘I won’t work without fair compensation and just plain respect for the work I do.’ You know how much the AMPTP would listen? Not at all. I just…wouldn’t work ever again. That’s why our collective bargaining power is the thing that protects labour. Because we support the @wgaeast and @wgawest and @directorsguild , we all get to use the power of the stuff we make to improve conditions for everyone. So please, vote yes on the strike authorization and send a strong message that we stand with our sibling unions and our fellow @sagaftra members.
