@hungryghostdiner is a beautifully crafted piece that dives into the delicate relationships we have with our parents and those that have left us. Perfect mise en scène. Perfect juxtapositions of music laid down.
It reminded me that no matter what race or religion we belong to, that those before us should not be forgotten. I learnt that it’s the lost souls that become hungry ghosts when forgotten, tormented by unsatiated hunger as they gorge ourselves with food and material matters, like haunting the living.
Contrary to our other horror piece Rahsia that’s playing now that is just heart stopping terrifying, @wejuncho’s HGD draws us into this world of hungry ghosts roaming aimlessly, where people moved quietly, set during the height of the pandemic- even the policemen were gentle and kind.
All the actors gave solid performances. Especially the female lead down to the police. Little Bonnie made me cry for my own child.
I noticed the very “bahasa”bahasa translation, and the jump of lines of English n malay at one point, even the “Kamsiah”… but That’s just me being pedantic.
HGD is a quiet ‘horror’ film- heart wrenching but laced with much humour, respect and love. Yes I cried a lot. I also learnt that we watched this film aptly on THE FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH OF HUNGRY GHOST!! 😱😱😱. Thank you for this gorgeous piece @wejuncho
