Mark Margolis 1939-2023 Veteran American actor who contributed so much character and authenticity to the worlds of Oz, Breaking Bad, and Better Call Saul. The list is endless. A great presence on camera and a fun guy to hang out with on set. Pictured here on location in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia when we were filming Squanto, A Warrior’s Tale, in 1993. RIP matey

We’re delighted it’s opening this year’s Bitsfest Dark Visions Programme, Nov 20th, together with seven other excellent films. Today T-Bone was nominated for’Best Short’ award and Jean and I for ‘Best Actor’. We’re honoured for our work to be recognized- we’re very proud of our film- but kudos to all involved, it took love and collaboration all round. Peter J Moore 1956-2023 Canadian music producer, who worked with Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Neko Case, Sloan and countless other artists. Best known for his famous one-microphone recording of The Cowboy Junkies at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Toronto in 1987, pictured in the photo above. The album, The Trinity Session, recorded on a shoestring budget sold more than 1.5 million copies in its first year. He worked with many independent bands and filmmakers, and was the music producer/engineer/mixer for Hard Core Logo, directed by Bruce McDonald, 1996. He received a Genie Award together with his co-writers for Best Original Song. In Hard Core Logo 2 I had the rare pleasure of acting alongside him- he hilariously sent himself up playing Bucky Haight’s put-upon producer Simon Less. RIP Peter

Remembering. 11.11.11. “By The Ghost Light, Wars, Memory and Families” By RHThomson, celebrated Canadian actor, founder of The World Remembers (A nonprofit organization driven by the idea “We must never lose sight of the fact that history is not the history of nations or ideologies, but of people”) The book examines how we frame war in its aftermath, HOW we remember, and the need to recognize the losses inflicted not simply on ‘our boys’, but on all combatants and families worldwide. In this picture are my dad’s WW2 demobilization papers and photos of him and his brother. They were fortunate, they both survived, but still carried the burden of war long after peace was declared.
