I don’t know about you, but I was stunned (but not surprised) to see this vile murderer’s crimes against humanity swept aside in the glowing obituaries yesterday.
For a more balanced report go and get a history lesson from Rolling Stone.
A few excerpts:
“The Yale University historian Greg Grandin, author of the biography Kissinger’s Shadow, estimates that Kissinger’s actions from 1969 through 1976, a period of eight brief years when Kissinger made Richard Nixon’s and then Gerald Ford’s foreign policy as national security adviser and secretary of state, meant the end of between three and four million people. That includes “crimes of commission,” he explained, as in Cambodia and Chile, and omission, like greenlighting Indonesia’s bloodshed in East Timor; Pakistan’s bloodshed in Bangladesh; and the inauguration of an American tradition of using and then abandoning the Kurds.“
“Every single person who died in Vietnam between autumn 1968 and the Fall of Saigon — and all who died in Laos and Cambodia, where Nixon and Kissinger secretly expanded the war within months of taking office, as well as all who died in the aftermath, like the Cambodian genocide their destabilization set into motion — died because of Henry Kissinger. We will never know what might have been, the question Kissinger’s apologists, and those in the U.S. foreign policy elite who imagine themselves standing in Kissinger’s shoes, insist upon when explaining away his crimes. We can only know what actually happened. What actually happened was that Kissinger materially sabotaged the only chance for an end to the war in 1968 as a hedged bet to ensure he would achieve power in Nixon’s administration or Humphrey’s. A true tally will probably never be known of everyone who died so Kissinger could be national security adviser.”

Last night at Carnegie Hall I had the delightful privilege of honoring Candy Darling on the eve of Trans Day of Remembrance by singing The Velvet Underground song “Candy Says.”
The evening was in celebration of Music and Revolution: Greenwich Village in the 60s by @richardbarone. If you had told me I would one day sing in Zankel Hall on the same stage with @josefeliciano, @paxton_tom, members of The Feelies, The Bongos, Carolyn Hester, @ericandersenofficial, and @davidjohansen.official I would have thought you were crazy!!!
These people changed the world!
There were beautiful performances by @jennimuldaur and her dad Geoff, Marshall Crenshaw, Vernon Reid, Lennie Kay, Willie Nile, Mary Lee Kortes, @terre_roche, David Amram, and a slew of others. The BAND were a joy to sing with. I was very happy to be performing with my friend @joemcginty7 again, what a treasure.
I felt out of place and intimidated when I first arrived but they were all so warm and welcoming I soon relaxed and had a wonderful time while learning a lot and being deeply moved.
Evidently folk singers live a long time. If you want to stick around awhile get out those guitars, kids!
I can’t wait for the release of the new Candy Darling movie starring @harinef.
Also, get ready for a fantastic biography by C. Carr coming on in 2024.

Kiki & Herb Holiday Tour Dec 6-16 🎄⭐️❤️

Finally, some good news about a story that shouldn’t have been a story to begin with.
Think about how much money and time these right wing morons are costing people. Think of all the tax dollars that were spent as it wound it’s way through the courts to it’s obvious conclusion just because some ignorant hateful yahoo who wants to be president decided this would be an effective tool to get him into the headlines. (Think of how long that run-on sentence was!) Then think of how marginalized communities are being exploited to raise money for hate campaigns. It’s cynical and sickening. NO ONE HATES DRAG QUEENS! Well, in general, personally I could name a few. JUST KIDDING!
Happy Trans Visibility Week!
