Justin Vivian Bond Instagram – Last night at Carnegie Hall I had the delightful privilege of honoring Candy Darling on the eve of Trans Day of Remembrance by singing The Velvet Underground song “Candy Says.” The evening was in celebration of Music and Revolution: Greenwich Village in the 60s by @richardbarone. If you had told me I would one day sing in Zankel Hall on the same stage with @josefeliciano, @paxton_tom, members of The Feelies, The Bongos, Carolyn Hester, @ericandersenofficial, and @davidjohansen.official I would have thought you were crazy!!! These people changed the world! There were beautiful performances by @jennimuldaur and her dad Geoff, Marshall Crenshaw, Vernon Reid, Lennie Kay, Willie Nile, Mary Lee Kortes, @terre_roche, David Amram, and a slew of others. The BAND were a joy to sing with. I was very happy to be performing with my friend @joemcginty7 again, what a treasure. I felt out of place and intimidated when I first arrived but they were all so warm and welcoming I soon relaxed and had a wonderful time while learning a lot and being deeply moved. Evidently folk singers live a long time. If you want to stick around awhile get out those guitars, kids! I can’t wait for the release of the new Candy Darling movie starring @harinef.
