Matthew Hussey Instagram – Intense emotional or physical pain can quickly lead to catastrophic thinking.

Phrases like: “I can’t do this,” “I’ll never get over this,” and “I’ll never meet someone like this again” are examples of catastrophic thinking.

It has us extrapolating today’s pain far into the future, with the assumption that it will never change in intensity.

We could say that the things that are causing us pain right now will one day go away. This is true in the case of a relationship ending, as we will be able to find another relationship and eventually move on from the pain of the last one.

But not all pain “goes away” with a change in circumstances. Some pain is chronic. And yet, even in the case of chronic pain, pain modulates. It changes. And how we relate to it changes. This is important to remember. Because the first truth—that pain hurts—can blind us to the second truth: that it changes.

If there is something in your life causing you pain today, remember this simple truth: that it will hurt, and it will change.
Matthew Hussey Instagram – “How can I stop addictive thoughts about someone who’s wrong for me?”

When we really like someone but know there are signs of problems, we’ll often overvalue them for their charisma and charm . . . and set ourselves up for massive future heartbreak.

This week’s brand new video will help you break this pattern once and for all. Tap the link in my IG Profile or head over to matthewhussey.com/blog to start watching now and leave me a comment when you do.
