Alice Lee Instagram – Happy Lunar New Year!!! ✨ As we celebrate the year of the Ox, I’m feelings lots of feelings and one of those feelings is that I gotta address what’s happening to the Asian community right now. If your anti-racism doesn’t include racism against Asian people, it’s trash. These recent attacks against Asian pple and elders during the pandemic triggers a lifetime (and more) of micro-aggressions and discrimination our community has felt and that a lot of us have had to suppress cuz we don’t wanna seem “too sensitive” and cuz we try and make space for others, cuz pple think we don’t have it “that bad”. And it hurts. It hurts that our community is being attacked in a violent way, but it also hurts that so many people don’t seem to notice or care or think it’s a big deal. Asian erasure is a real thing – in our society, in Hollywood, in our news sources. And it’s fucked up. Our stories matter. Sometimes I feel like pple – seemingly smart, kind and woke pple – forget that Asians are people of color and also experience racism. If you are anti-racist, you have to also denounce anti-Asian racism. Also, as many people have said, although I think it goes without saying really, this is NOT an oppression Olympics. We are asking for the empathy and awareness and action that we deserve. Also, the root of all this violence and discrimination and racism is white supremacy, and we must continue to make efforts to dismantle it. Periodt.
