Ashley Scott Instagram – Again, this sculpture needs to be circulated. The probability of your being born is about 1 in 4 trillion. When you look into the eyes of another they too are a miracle. What is your souls assignment? I want to share a story with you. 13 years ago my Dad was going back to his small West Texan town for homecoming and a parade. I love this tradition as much as he does. My younger brother Zach was dating Bill who was male and had a beautiful dark chocolate complexion. When I asked Zach if they were going he said “there’s no way we can go there.” I thought it was ridiculous, it was 2010 for Gods sakes. Well, I arrived and after the football game we went to a gathering for dancing and celebrating and honestly, I had to confront the fact that Zach and Bill would not have been welcome, a sad realization. Everyone was very welcoming to me and I line danced and met my Dads elderly classmates. I sat next to a woman in her mid 50’s. I told her about the birth of my sweet baby girl, Ada. I was giddy with excitement. Beaming over this new chapter, the Pureness of it all. She said have you baptized her yet? I said no, not yet. She then squared her shoulders to me and asked me why? How could I have not made that the first of my priorities? That she would go to hell, that I would go to hell. Well, imagine the prickly feeling that washed over me. She was damning my sweet precious baby girl. I was hot in the face and wanted to to say how dare you, how inappropriate among other choice words. Then I heard (yes actually heard, Gods words) I heard “She is loving the only way she knows how.” Her words were her truth. She was actually trying to save my child, to bring love and protection to my child. I suddenly shifted my own prospective and it was one of the great Ahah moments of my life. Jesus walked the earth without judgment. Story or truth, Look into the eyes of our adversary’s who’s actions or words are unfathomable to us. Take a step back and know they only know what they know. They can see through the lens of their own experience. Same for us. In terrifying times like these. Be the light. Don’t allow the darkness to overcome you.
