Kirsten Gillibrand Instagram – I’ve just heard the incredible news that Danielle Aloni and her five-year-old daughter, Amelia, have been released by Hamas.

I’ve been working closely with Danielle’s cousin Alana, who lives in New York, who told me the harrowing story of how Danielle and Amelia were taken hostage while visiting with Danielle’s sister, Sharon, her brother-in-law David, and their three-year-old twins, Emma and Julie.

Sharon, David, Emma, and Julie are still being held hostage.

My heart is with Danielle, Amelia, Alana, and their entire family as they begin to heal from this ordeal. I’m praying for the safe return of Sharon, David, Emma, and Julie. And I’m thinking of all the families still waiting for their loved ones to be released. I won’t stop working until we bring all the hostages home.
Kirsten Gillibrand Instagram – The turkey is just about done! I cover my turkey in bacon before I cook it – it keeps it super moist and flavorful. Here are my Thanksgiving recipes:

Thanksgiving Turkey 🦃

Start with a fresh turkey (if it’s frozen it takes 3 or 4 days to defrost in the refrigerator). Rub the inside cavity with salt. Add 1 apple and 1 onion cut in sections to the cavity for moisture. Put in roasting pan with a cup of water for moisture. Cover entire bird with bacon. Bake at 325 for 20 minutes a pound. Check after 1 hour and remove bacon (so you can eat it!) After the bacon is removed, tent it with aluminum foil so top doesn’t burn. Let rest for 20 minutes when done before you carve it.

Recipe for Thanksgiving savory stuffing:

Sauté in 2-3 tbs of olive oil (or butter if you prefer):
1 whole large onion sliced
6 stalks of celery sliced
2 cups sliced mushrooms
All to taste:
1 tbs summer savory
1 tsp sage
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp rosemary
1 tbs parsley flakes
Salt and pepper to taste

Combine sautéed vegetables with 8-12 cups of dried bread cubes (or amount that fits your pan). Add 2-4 cups of turkey broth (if you save giblets from your turkey you can simmer them for an hour and use that broth) until moist but not sticky. Add to a 9×13 greased (butter or olive oil) baking dish and bake for 45 minutes.

Happy Thanksgiving!
