This week, @MelindaFrenchGates, Amal Clooney, and I are in Malawi as part of an effort we launched last year between the @GirlsOpportunityAlliance, @GatesFoundation, and @ClooneyFoundationforJustice to help end child marriage and to support women and girls pursuing their education. We’re meeting with grassroots leaders and changemakers to hear their stories and find ways to support girls who are working to overcome barriers to pursue their dreams.
We met with young women who are part of @AGEAfrica — a program supported by the Girls Opportunity Alliance — that provides girls with scholarships, mentorship, and afterschool programming. I saw so much of myself in these bright young women, and I was just so moved by their determination and resilience.
Making sure girls finish school is one of the best ways to counter child marriage and help them reach their fullest potential. Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing more stories from our trip — hope you’ll follow along.

Today, we lost Rosalynn Carter, one of my heroes. Through her activism, her advocacy, her leadership of @thecartercenter, and her lifetime of public service, she left our world better for having walked on it.
On a visit to a mill during one of her husband’s first campaigns, Rosalynn Carter met an exhausted worker who confided that she still faced a long night of caring for her mentally ill daughter. In that stranger’s story, Rosalynn heard a call to action and devoted her life to it.
Mental health was an issue that few public figures were addressing at the time, but Rosalynn refused to let stigma be an excuse for silence. She took up the cause with courage and compassion.
Rosalynn was also one of the first to give voice to the important role caregivers play in our society. She helped others understand both the value of their work—and how much it can ask of caregivers themselves.
My thoughts are with her family as they mourn the loss of this extraordinary woman.
The second title from Moment of Lift Books—The Worlds I See by Dr. Fei-Fei Li—is out today!
The optimistic lens Dr. Li brings to the AI conversation is one the world so badly needs. I can’t wait for you to read her story. Learn more at the link in my bio. #MomentofLift
It was such a privilege to spend time in South Africa with visionary leaders who are working to remove the barriers that hold women and girls back.
Here are a few highlights from my trip this week—including participating in a panel about child marriage alongside @michelleobama and Amal Clooney (@clooneyfoundationforjustice), learning about literacy programs from students and teachers at a primary school, spending time with the remarkable Graça Machel, and talking about women’s power at the @thetutulegacy

In October, I had the honor of receiving the Eisenhower Medal for Leadership and Service.
It was such a privilege sharing a space with so many inspiring Eisenhower Fellows whose work is making the world better and more equal in ways that will be felt for generations.
Thank you, @eisenhowerfellowships —it’s deeply humbling to receive an award from an organization I admire so much.
I recently got to discuss the future of artificial intelligence—while sitting in a self-driving car!—with Dr. Fei-Fei Li. Here are a few things you should know about her:
1. She’s a renowned computer scientist whose research laid the groundwork for modern artificial intelligence.
2. She believes that AI can improve people’s lives—and she’s working to make that a reality.
3. Her new book, The Worlds I See, is out tomorrow.
I can’t wait for you to read her story.
“Every time we’ve had major technological advancements in human history, we’ve seen a better quality of life for many. And that’s what I believe AI can do, also.” —Dr. Fei-Fei Li
Dr. Fei-Fei Li is a renowned computer scientist who knows as much about AI as anyone on the planet. She helped lay the foundation for modern AI, and her work has contributed to all kinds of innovative technology—like the self-driving car we’re sitting in 😊
Her new book, The Worlds I See, is definitely worth the read.
Can artificial intelligence be a force for good? Luckily for us, renowned computer scientist Dr. Fei-Fei Li has spent her entire career working to ensure it will be.
I’m so excited for you to read about Dr. Li’s remarkable work in her new memoir, The Worlds I See, out tomorrow 🌟
One of the many highlights from my trip to South Africa was speaking with @therealnozi at the Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture, organized by the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation.
We talked about the importance of valuing women’s and girls’ contributions to society and ensuring they have the freedom to step into their power—principles that Nomalizo Leah Tutu and the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu have long championed in their own work.
Thank you, @thetutulegacy, for inviting me—and for the remarkable work you’re doing to unite people in their efforts to solve society’s most entrenched problems.
