This #HumanRightsDay, we are thinking about the 12 million girls around the world who are forced to enter into child marriages every year. Child marriage threatens girls’ health and safety, prevents them from getting an education, and can lead to them, their families, and their entire communities getting stuck in a cycle of poverty. This time last year, we traveled to Malawi and South Africa to help bring more attention to this serious — and often overlooked — global issue to hear directly from our partners who are on the front lines working to end child marriage. We remain so inspired by the amazing girls and women we met, and the courageous advocates sharing their stories and raising attention about their plight. Just a few weeks ago, Malawi launched a revitalized national strategy to end child marriage. In the past year, we’ve also seen countries including Colombia, Sierra Leone, the Central African Republic, and Zambia take steps to address this issue. Every girl deserves the chance to determine her own future. That is only possible in a world without child marriage. As a global community, let’s recommit ourselves to ending child marriage once and for all.

In a conversation with @vanityfair’s @keziahweir, I shared that I didn’t anticipate turning 60 would be so exciting. But wow, it really is! As I start my next decade, I’m feeling so grateful for all the transitions that have led me to where I am today, and I’m feeling extraordinarily energized about the work ahead. Thank you, Keziah (and @radhikajones), for giving me the space to talk about the difference I hope to help make. Read the article at the link in my bio.

I’m excited to share that I’m committing $150 million to help dismantle the barriers that hold women back at work. New research from my team at @pivotal_ventures, which adds to the growing body of evidence on women’s experiences at work, shows that a lack of caregiving support, toxic workplace cultures, bias, harassment, and even threats of violence are among the biggest challenges women are facing at work right now. It’s clear that the modern workplace simply wasn’t built with women in mind, and frankly, women are tired of being pushed into a broken system and asked to overcome arbitrary and unfair roadblocks to succeed. It’s time for that to change. These funds, which are part of the $1 billion commitment I announced earlier this year, will be focused on three areas: 1) Seeding innovations to build healthy workplaces; 2) Informing public policy changes to modernize the workplace; and 3) Increasing women’s representation and advancement in AI and tech. It’s essential that women—and all workers—have the support they need at work so they can reach their fullest potential.
I am so excited to announce that my new book, The Next Day, is coming out in April 2025! In The Next Day, I write about some of the hardest, most beautiful, most meaningful experiences of my life—and what they have taught me about embracing uncertainty, navigating loss, and leaning into new beginnings. I can’t wait to share this book with you! Learn more at the link in my bio.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with Tsitsi Masiyiwa (@mrs.m_official), Karlie Kloss (@karliekloss), Cari Tuna, Anne Wojcicki (@annewoj23), Sara Blakely (@sarablakely), and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (@chimamanda_adichie)—six women who are harnessing the power of philanthropy in remarkable ways. I’m thrilled that @vanityfair is highlighting their important work, and I loved getting to share what I admire about each of these women. Read the article at the link in my bio.

Not to state the obvious, but I love Christmas 🤗 Can’t wait to spend this time with family and friends—and of course, see my granddaughters in their adorable Christmas jammies! What are your favorite ways to celebrate the season? Happy holidays!
I recently got to spend some time with staff and volunteers from @perinatalsupportwashington, a non-profit that supports new parents, their families, and health providers across Washington. While we assembled wellness bags and wrote notes of encouragement to new parents, I learned about all the ways they help families navigate pregnancy and postpartum, with a focus on supporting parents’ mental health. Feeling grateful for the opportunity to give back to new parents, who give so much of themselves to their families and communities every single day ❤️
