I light candles all the time – it helps me to pause and think about those who are suffering and people I loved who’ve left this world – so tonight at 6pm after such devastation and so many lives lost I am going to do that – light candles and reflect on this horror – I feel so useless – donations to some of our incredible Irish charities who are there helps in the only way I know how and time to reflect and honour all of those lives lost by lighting the darkness helps my soul #candlevigil #spire #dublin 💚

I loved it 😊 we were almost gliding across the dessert as the sun rose in the sky – no wind, just serene and ethereal … apart from the big blasts from the fire keeping us up with Orlando our pilot, like a conductor, manoeuvring the ropes and releasing the flames, we spotted camels striding across the sand in the early morning and gazed out at our fellow ballooners – all in all a magical experience 🙏💚 @balloonadventures_dubai #beyourownhero❤️
The miraculous goodness of a deep tissue massage after a long flight – nothing beats it and every time I have a great massage I promise myself I will book myself in for more when I’m home but never do… but this time maybe… 😅🤞 anyway it was #bliss in the capable hands of #giri and lashings of scented rose oil, heated compresses, flickering light and dreamy music 😴 😴😴 – you get the picture 😊 it was a nice little hour #sultanmassage (I think it should be Sultana?) @taliseottomanspa @jumeirahzs Jumeirah Zabeel Saray

A couple of nights ago I left behind the glitz to discover the tastes, tantalising aromas and the culinary theatrics of street food in the oldest district @dubai #deira where street cooking blends a myriad of ancient cultures to create unique and sometimes improbable (but so tasty) flavour combos. Food unites us all and you will pray a lot… by the end of this great #middleeasternstreetfoodtour all I could do was pray… for no more food 😅 (and still managed another few stops for delicious #chickenshawarma and fire roasted #iraqifish We were in the capable hands of @arva.ahmed @fryingpanadventures who shares her many secret haunts and hideaways where menus are doorways, where windows and chefs escape the kitchen to cook right before your eyes – the first stop was a Palestinian Jordanian gem that delivered platefuls of shattah, thoum and tahini sauces for the best falafel ever – liberally sprinkled with lemon-scented sumac and Palestinian style humus served with Khubz Arabee (like pita) – they fed seven of us for around €16 (for all of us!). Next stop was a kitchen where the chef cooked Cheese Knafeh with dramatic wrist flicking as he lovingly blended the sugar syrup, noodles and cheese – such passion and lots of laughter. Then on to the truly unique flavours (rose and cardamom) of Emerati Gahwa (coffee) served with
Karabij Pistachio biscuits. There is something enchanting about food being prepared right before your eyes… the drama of the expert cook, the aromatic smells of spices and smoke and the sounds of the knife chopping, the fire crackling and the buzzy banter of those of us lucky enough to devour delicious morsels dripping with yummy oils snd spicy sauces on the bustling streets. Street food is a beautiful way to unite in our diversity – sharing a bond that bridges all of our differences in a tradition that is as old as civilisation. Don’t get me wrong… I love getting glammed up for a beautiful aroma-free restaurant where the cooking happens in the kitchen but there is something magical about licking your lips and fingers after a delicious dinner cooked to order #unmissable #anothersidetodubai @fryingpanadventures Deira, Dubai
