Today is always a bit strange for me… it’s my wedding anniversary, or would have been had Richard not passed away – so a special day. But the perfect day to marry the person you love turned into a day I dreaded when he died. Then eventually I endured that day and now, surprisingly perhaps… I celebrate it. What a privilege to see a new year in and to wonder about all the possibilities that life holds – for me, my son Dara and all the people who are important to me. I won’t lie… I usually spend more time drifting into folders of photos from over the years, all the great moments, holidays, dinners, family occasions, days with good friends… than I do on TV on this day. But I am always left with the strongest sense that it’s never the material things… the cars, the dress, the new sofa that I think about when I look back – it’s the time I spent with people who matter and a new year is about imagining all the great moments and experiences still to come. That rarely involves the gym, the diet the achievements – it’s always about the greatest gift of all. Love, happiness, treasured moments with good friends and lots of laughter. I won’t lie… stormy weather affects my energy and I know I’m not alone. Those dark skies rest heavy on my mood and I have to dig deep into that store of will power to get out for a walk on the bleakest of days… when I often need that blast of fresh air and walking therapy most. But I guess life is a little like that too and we can all have stormy days that have nothing to do with the rain… and we learn to weather them. Sending love to all those going through those #lifestorms right now. They will pass but sometimes it doesn’t feel like it when you’re going through it. Myself and many others reading this are living proof that there is life even after the most tumultuous of storms that wreak havoc on our lives.
