Last weekend I debut for @ringofhonor in @AEW in my hometown of SLC, Utah. In the same month, I celebrate 20 years in professional wrestling.
The past 20 years, I remember so many long drives, I remember long nights without sleep, I remember leaving the stock brokerage firm on Friday just to end the weekends wrestling road trips with clocking in Monday morning without going home, I remember getting paid nothing, i remember getting paid a hot dog and a handshake, I remember being stoked about said hot dog and handshake, I remember piling 6 people into a single bed in a hotel room to cut costs. I remember finally making it into a video game and reherniating my back so that I couldnt finish my own mocap for the game. I remember I couldn’t physically walk many days from injury. I remember days that it was hard to reach my toes and tie my shoes, I remember missing parties, birthdays, and special events. I remember times of feeling broken and useless
I also remember that I’ve been blessed to have traveled to beautiful parts of the world, meet so many diverse cultures, I remember that IM IN A FREAKING video game! I remember ive been on tv shows and WILL BE on more with figures I used to watch on tv while i was a kid. Ive learned perseverance through pain and struggle. I remember finding and creating my confidence. I remember becoming besties with God again. I remember that ive been blessed enough to be able to impact and therefore be impacted by so many people around the world.
None of the many blessings I have in my life would have been possible without 1st gods’ blessing and 2nd his push for me to take the 1st step, the 1st long drive, the 1st bump, the 1st broken bone. I remember that because of said pains and struggles, I’ve lived a life the 12 year old Martin could only dream of. Because of this hardship I am stronger now then I have EVER been….and the best is yet to come
