Matthew Underwood Instagram – Float with me in a historic Phosphate Mine in West-Central Florida. This is Mutual Mine, which operated at the end of the 19th century and closed in 1914. Still visible above the waterline are wooden pylons that held tracks for rail carts to move rocks out of the site.
The area around this abandoned mine (known as Bone Valley) still accounts for nearly 60% of the phosphate produced in the US.
