The United Kingdom and Italy share a deep and solid bond. It is a relationship based on our shared values. A belief in individual freedom and our commitment to national sovereignty. These are not just conservative principles, but mainly British and Italian. We have many shared challenges. Both Italy and the UK have faced an unprecedented influx of illegal immigrants. We both believe that securing our borders is critical. Whatever our challenges, we will always be united in our response. The UK and Italy are working together to defend our common values and defeat human traffickers. Rome, Italy Pantomime time last night – a long-standing family tradition! Nice to have the drama on the stage for once 😅 Georgian Theatre Royal The UK has reduced emissions faster than any other G7 country. But we cannot do it alone. That’s why I’m at COP28 – to come together with countries from around the world and work together on reducing carbon emissions. The UK isn’t just talking, we’re taking action – today we’ve committed £1.6 billion in international climate investment on areas where we can lead global progress: 🌳 Protecting forests 💷 Encouraging private investment ⚡️ Backing renewables The transition to net zero must benefit, not burden ordinary families. That’s why I have set out a new approach to get us there. The UK has reduced emissions faster than any other G7 country. But we cannot do it alone. John is a big fan of politics, and a lifelong Conservative. He tells me I’m the 23rd person to serve as Prime Minister during his long life. When I heard John was visiting Parliament last week, I made sure to invite him to 10 Downing Street, because he’d always wanted to but never had the chance. Can you imagine doing something for the first time at 110 years old? John told me he worked for Ford for over 40 years, and whilst there made tank parts for the Army during the war. My first car was a Ford Escort – so we had a lot to chat about. He’s still a car enthusiast, having given up driving only 5 years ago! No matter how much is going on I’ll always make time to meet people like John. Because John embodies what it means to be British, and I’m proud to have made another memory for him here at Downing Street. Thanks to the staff of Cubbington Mill Care Home for looking after him so well and to @jeremy.wright01 for the introduction. I will always back our Armed Forces. That’s what I told our airmen and women today at RAF Lossiemouth. To everyone protecting us on land, at sea and in the air – thank you. Your service is an inspiration to us all. We’ve kept our promise to deliver 50,000 more nurses in the NHS. I was at the @uniofsurrey today speaking to student nurses about this commitment and to thank them for choosing a career path that is so important. I’ll continue to support them and our other frontline workers to get patients the care they need quicker. University of Surrey We’ve kept our promise to deliver 50,000 more nurses in the NHS. I got a lot of feedback on @jeremyhuntmp’s autumn statement. There’s nothing like tax cuts and pension boosts to bring in Christmas early!
