Stephen Hill Instagram – Crumbs on the Tables @dnice This brother has provided the soundtrack for so many incredible moments. I remember getting a last min invite to a party for the movie Bessie, and he was the DJ. I was at the gym and didn’t have clothes for the party. I grabbed a shirt off a sale rack (my least favorite shirt ever, and yall keep finding that picture) and made my way to the party. I had recently auditioned for HBO’s Lewis and Clark series, and since Bessie was also produced by HBO, I decided to walk around that party with the book the series was based on in tow. I figured somebody would see me with and say something. Nobody said a word, but I did book the role. A few years later, I booked the role of T.C. in @magnumpi and the good brothers @actorsamsmith and @omarjdorsey took me out for a drink to celebrate. Omar bought us some ridiculously expensive @pappy_van_winkle_bourbon, and I’ll never forget his generosity. Anyway, D-nice just happened to be sitting next to me at the bar, and when I told him I would be playing T.C. on Magnum P.I. he was genuinely excited for me, too. We talked about the struggles of the business, and he shared how he was once living out of his car. I appreciated those brothers at that bar that night more than they’ll ever know. A few more years later, I’m in Hawaii, and D-Nice got us all through the pandemic with Club Quarantine. #IYKYK A few years after that(almost a week ago), I snapped this picture of D-Nice at the afterparty for the new @thecolorpurple premiere. So basically, whenever I find myself doing something extraordinary…D-Nice has been on the 1 and 2’s. He plays for folks like Oprah, Spielberg, and for presidents at the White House these days but he rocks the party just the same. And the people that still have VHS tapes of Call Me D-Nice, Crumbs on the Table, and Self-Distruction recorded from Video Music Box, Rap City, and Yo MTV Raps be in the building too! I really hope he comes out with a book. His story must be incredible. Okay…story time is over for today, but be sure to catch Omar Dorsey in his new series, Bookie.
